Glass Alliance Europe, the umbrella organisation for the European glass sectors, reacted today to President von der Leyen State of the European Union speech. On this occasion, the European Commission President aknowledged that ‘targeted support is needed (…) like the glass makers across Europe’.
While the industry welcomes this recognition, it recalls that energy costs represent a substantial share of glass production costs and that most of the glass industry production is so far entitled to no EU dedicated support scheme.
Glass Alliance Europe proposes various measures to be implemented rapidly to respond to the needs of the industry (see below).
