Definitive Anti-Dumping Measures on Chinese Glass Fibre Yarns

The European Union has officially imposed definitive anti-dumping measures on imports of glass fibre yarns from China, a move welcomed by Glass Fibre Europe as a crucial step in ensuring fair competition and securing the future of the European glass fibre industry.

Glass fibre yarns are essential to lightweight material solutions used across key sectors of our economy, including construction, transport, energy, industry, aerospace, defence and many more. Glass fibre production is key to this 21st century glass-based technology value chain, which is vital to the transition to a resilient carbon-neutral economy.

In response to mounting evidence of unfair competition, Glass Fibre Europe requested an anti-dumping investigation, and the European Commission investigators have now confirmed that Chinese imports were heavily dumped, significantly undercutting prices, and harming the EU industry.

Cédric Janssens, Secretary General of Glass Fibre Europe, praised the EU’s action, stating:
With this decision, the European Union has shown that it will not hesitate to defend a level playing field in its market, imposing duties of up to 56.1% to counteract unfair competition. This strong response reaffirms Europe’s commitment to protecting its domestic industries, securing jobs and ensuring the resilience and competitiveness of its strategic sectors.”

While the imposition of anti-dumping measures restores a level playing field, Glass Fibre Europe emphasises the need for their strict enforcement. “We trust the European Commission will ensure full compliance with these measures and take action against any attempts to circumvent them”, concluded Cédric Janssens.
